SJA Mourns the lose of Sgt. Sean Carmeli
SJA Graduating Class of
The Saint Joseph Academy Community mourns the passing of Sgt. Sean Carmeli, who died on July 20, killed in the line of duty while serving with honor in the Golani Brigade of the Israeli Defense Force during a clash with Hamas. Sean, just 21 years old, was born in Texas and grew up on South Padre Island. He attended Saint Joseph Academy but moved to Israel to finish his high school education in Ra’anana and then joined the Israeli Defense Force. Sean is survived by his parents and two sisters: Gal, SJA Class of 2004 and Oranit, SJA Class of 2005. All within the Saint Joseph Academy Community mourn the tragic loss of this very devout and dedicated young Jewish man and pray that God will bring peace to his family during their time of tragic loss and also peace to this troubled area of the world.

Elizabeth Chaney named 2013 Global Scholar at The University of Kansas

Elizabeth Chaney was named a 2014 Global Scholar at the University of Kansas in November 2013. One of 14 students selected for this prestigious award, Elizabeth demonstrated interest in global and international studies, plans for studying abroad and potential for high academic achievement and leadership. Miguel Salinas is partnering with Megan Cox at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to market a new hormone-free way to grow thicker eyelashes and eyebrows. Hugo Esteban Rodriguez
SJA Graduating Class of 2006
Hugo Esteban Rodriguez, SJA Class of 2006, recently had his poem, "52-77" published in the 2014 edition of the Texas Poetry Calendar, where he shares space with Texas poet laureates and other renowned poets from across the state. He graduated from the University of Texas at Brownsville in 2009 and is currently pursuing his Master's of Fine Arts Degree through the University of Texas at El Paso.
Richard (Rick) Lee Lucio

Richard Lee Lucio, PE, LEED AP named CEO and principal owner of Hallberg Engineering
Richard Lee (Rick) Lucio joined Hallberg Engineering in 1998. He soon became the manager of the mechanical and commissioning departments. In January 2011, he was promoted to Vice President with the primary responsibility for corporate business development as well as continuing to manage multiple departments. In March 2013, Rick’s passion for being a leader in the engineering business community led him to his current position of CEO and principal owner in the firm. He has over 21 years of mechanical engineering and building commissioning experience.
Richard Lee Lucio graduated from Saint Joseph Academy in 1982 where he was in the National Honor Society and was in the upper 10% of his class. In 1986, Rick graduated from Texas A&I Kingsville with Honors and with a Degree in Mechanical Engineering. In addition, in 2004, he obtained his Professional Engineering License.
In 1989, Rick married Kim Ovine Fleischman from White Bear Lake, Minnesota. They have two children: Samantha Lyn, 14 and Richard Anthony, 13.
Richard Lee Lucio was born in Brownsville, Texas, and is the son of Eduardo Andres Lucio, Sr.† and Josefa L. Lucio. He is the youngest of ten brothers and sisters: Bea Lucio Rodriguez, Senator Eddie Lucio, Jr., Bertie Lucio Caballero, Helen Lucio, Maggie Lucio, Jesse Lucio, Joe Lucio, David Lucio and Bob Lucio.
SJA Graduating Class of 2000
Congratulations to Mariloly Melguizo, a graduate of the SJA Class of 2000, recently named Director of Corporate Communications at AT&T. She is the daughter of Enrique A. Melguizo (SJA Class of 1964) and Lolis R. Meguizo. In May 2004, Mariloly graduated with honors from the School of Communications at the University of Texas in Austin, Texas and initiated her career with Lois Paul & Partners in Austin. She was transferred to their corporate offices in Boston, MA where she was later hired by Lewis PR and invited to open their New York City office. About two years later, she joined Fleishman Hillard as an Account Supervisor, ultimately as Vice-President on the AT&T account, until leaving in March 2013 when she was offered the position of Director of Corporate Communications at AT&T.
