Saint Joseph Academy’s students reflect the Marist charism every day. As a result of the call to serve others and show neighborly love, the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) and Marist Youth will be helping United Way of Southern Cameron County’s annual Snack Pack Program from Nov. 1 until Dec. 6. With Saint Joseph Academy’s collection efforts, the United Way hopes to provide over 100 children in the Brownsville community with a variety of snacks during the Christmas Break.
Some of the snacks include peanut butter, granola bars, and fruit cups. The Snack Pack collection depends on the Brownsville Independent School District (BISD) counselors’ recommendations of possible children who may need food assistance during the Christmas break. Helping others is not only limited to the SJA community. The NJHS moderator, Mr. David Bonnet said, “Even though the children are not part of our school community, they are part of our local community. The donations are going to a worthwhile cause, and the kids are counting on us to help fill the void.”
The items donated by each grade level will be bundled and stored. The United Way organization will pick up the bundled snacks and deliver them to the children in need. Both the NJHS and the Marist Youth members hope that SJA students will contribute to this effort to serve children in need.
