Due to the predicted severe cold weather, the Diocese of Brownsville and the Catholic Schools Office canceled classes for all Catholic schools in Brownsville, including Saint Joseph Academy, on Wednesday, January 17, 2018. In response to the cancellation, the administration of SJA said, “The safety of all our students and faculty is our priority.” All SJA scheduled activities for Wednesday were also canceled.
While the weather is predicted to be cold for the remainder of the week, the hazardous wintry mix of freezing precipitation has passed. After the one day break from school, classes resumed at the regular time on Thursday. To stay warm, teachers opened their classroom for the students to gather while waiting for the start of homeroom. All students are reminded to check the weather and dress accordingly for the day, wearing appropriate warm weather gear as needed.
