This year’s Spirit Award recipient, Ms. Beatriz Rodriguez '90, represented Saint Joseph Academy (SJA) at the 21st annual Spirit Award banquet hosted by the Diocese of Brownsville. The banquet was held at Our Lady of Sorrows, a Catholic school in McAllen, Texas. Each Catholic school picks a winner, and at the banquet, all of the award winners are recognized for their dedication and support of their respective schools. The banquet also served as a fundraiser for the Diocesan Catholic school tuition assistance.

Ms. Rodriguez said, “I am extremely honored. It was quite a surprise...I know I’m not the only one who deserves a spirit award. I know that many of us who work here at St. Joe go above and beyond for the love of our school and for the love of our students.” Ms. Campirano, Director of Alumni Affairs, said, “A winner is someone who has done a lot for St. Joe in any shape, way or form, someone who is committed to the mission of the school and has shown that they are Marist. They have a strong connection to St. Joe and have a strong relationship with the school.”  The Spirit Award winners are parents, alumni, and teachers.

At the banquet, the attendees had dinner, listened to the guest speaker Most Reverend Daniel Flores, Bishop of the Diocese of Brownsville and watched a video with pictures of students and events to represent their schools. Award recipients from each school were then recognized and received their awards. Ms. Rodriguez was supported by her family, the SJA administration and faculty.
