The Saint Joseph Academy (SJA) soccer team has started their season, and freshman Ivan Cerda was named the JV team captain. Ivan has been playing soccer since he was 6 years old, and it has been a big part of his life since. He has played in various teams, such as the Barracudas, a BOYSA (Brownsville Opportunity Youth Soccer League) team.

The Barracudas helped his game improve and mature, as he was exposed to tough competition. This competition has helped him in the act of adjusting to the speed of high school soccer. “It is an honor to be able to wear the colors of St.Joe that mean so much to me. It has gotten me excited for the future and I can't wait to play for three more years,” said Cerda.

Ivan’s experience of playing with the team has been different compared to previous teams. He has been able to represent his school and play with his friends, which has given him a greater drive to win. Even though the soccer season faced many challenges and adversity, Ivan stayed dedicated. He was moved up to varsity and will continue playing with them for the rest of the season.
