Good Neighbor Service Project
Good Neighbor Service Project is a service project that is supported by the SJA community, it is not a club. The purpose of the service project is to demonstrate care for the least favored members of society, which is an important part of our SJA mission statement as well as the Marist charism. On the fourth Thursday of each month, we provide a hot meal to needy individuals at Good Neighbor Settlement House, which is a non-profit social service organization that provides assistance to people who are homeless or economically disadvantaged. Different groups organize and serve these meals each month. For example, in August, Marist Youth leaders organized and served the meal, in September, the Call to Ministry (CTM) class will serve the meal, and in October, the Rotary Interact Club will serve the meal. Students and their moderator and/or teacher plan menus, shop for supplies, prepare the food, and serve it to those in need. Last month, we were able to serve the food on site, as the dining room is now open to clients. (It is also noteworthy that we continued our service project even while the main dining room was closed due to the pandemic and kitchen renovations. Clients received 'to go' boxes so that meals were still available to those who needed them.)
