“Coach Soto and myself are extremely proud of our girls, and have been pleased with their dedication and efforts to have this season be as successful as it has. We didn’t even know if there was gonna be a season due to the pandemic. We are beyond blessed to have had a season this year, and we are very proud to be apart of SJA. The support from parents, students alumni and staff have been nothing short of amazing”, Lady Bloodhounds Head Coach, -Robert Moreno.
The 20-21 SJA Lady Bloodhounds basketball team has been fighting through adversity even before the season began. The girls began the season 5-0, and defeated some top ranked teams in the valley such as McAllen High, Valley View and Los Fresnos. The Lady Hounds went on to district play and won 7 out of their 8 games clinching the No. 1 seed and district title for TAPPS 5A district 4. The Lady Hounds then waited for 2 weeks as they received a first round bye, and played Sugarland Fort Bend in the Area round (Sweet 16) of the TAAPS state playoffs. The Lady Hounds came out on top winning by the score of 52-38 and advanced to the Elite 8 for the second time in 3 seasons.
